In this article, I will show you how to make a very simple and delicious caipirinha, the Caipimentha. This is essentially a pineapple mint caipirinha, that not only looks good but also brings some “exoticness” to your table, using only some very common ingredients.
This is one of my favorite caipirinhas at the Aprazível Restaurant in Rio, so I thought it would be a good one to share with you. If you are in Rio or are planning to travel there, then I definitely recommend you to stop by Aprazível and taste the original Caipimentha there, but if you are too far away from the Marvelous City, then here is how you can treat yourself to this drink right from the comfort of your home.
The first thing is to make sure that you have fresh ingredients. Make sure you have fresh pineapple and fresh mint leaves. Don’t use old pineapples that have been already cut and left in the fridge or can pineapples. Also, make sure your mint leaves are fresh. If they have been left in the refrigerator for a long time, then they can become quite soggy and make your drink bitter.
Let’s look at the recipe, shall we?
- 60 ml (2 oz.) Cachaça
- 4 cubes Pineapple
- 5 leaves Mint
- 1 tblsp White Sugar
- Crushed ice
- Gently muddle the pineapple cubes, sugar and mint leaves in a cocktail mixer.
- Pour in ice and the Cachaça.
- Shake well. Serve in an old fashion glass. Enjoy
